When it comes to medications, it seems like many people believe injections are the best way to go. On the surface, this makes sense, as injections give patients the medication they need fast. But are injections the best method of administration? Injections vs. oral medications: which is more effective?

When are Injections Better than Oral Medications?

When it comes to vitamins and nutrients, injections are generally more preferable than oral medications.  This is especially true with regards to vitamin cocktails. The reason why injections and vitamin IV therapies are so effective is that they are able to bypass many of the issues which orally administered nutrients are plagued with.

When vitamins and nutrients are administered orally, they have to travel through the body – particularly the digestive system – to reach the bloodstream. When traveling through the body, often times these nutrients are diverted or prevented from reaching their intended targets for any number of reasons.  Intravenous administration, on the other hand, goes directly into the bloodstream, meaning the patient receives 100-percent of the vitamins or nutrients given.

When are Oral Medications More Effective?

As previously mentioned, some medications simply cannot be effective if they are in an injectable form. This is especially true when trying to treat particular ailments. Take, for example, hookworm. Since a hookworm lives in the stomach of an individual, injecting medication would be ineffective, as it would bypass the problem entirely. Only by orally administering medication can the hookworm be treated effectively.

Which is More Effective? Oral or Injectable Medications?

So, do injections work better than oral medications? It depends. The ways in which a medicine is dispensed is dependent on the chemical properties of that particular medicine. Take insulin, for example. If taken orally, insulin may be destroyed by the digestive enzymes of the body, making it ineffective. Therefore, it must be injected.  In the same way, certain medicines only work in solid form and are ineffective if injected.

A Vitamin Cocktail Injection is the Most Effective Way to Receive Nutrients

If you find yourself feeling sluggish, or without the vigor and sharpness you once had, you may not be receiving enough key vitamins and minerals. In instances like these, you should consider vitamin cocktail injections. By directly administering key nutrients into your bloodstream you can experience renewed energy instantly. Some of the key health benefits of vitamin cocktails include:

  • Improved hydration
  • Improved skin quality
  • A reduction in the headaches
  • A reduction in stress levels
  • Improved symptoms of depression
  • Improved symptoms of asthma
  • A boosted auto-immune system

Your immune system’s health is something you need to take very seriously. After all, it’s what keeps you healthy and is your body’s defense against potentially deadly viruses and microbes. At Walk Into Wellness, we want all of our patients to live life to their fullest. Here are a few wellness remedies to boost your immune system.

Get More Rest

Lack of sleep can seriously harm your immune system. In fact, studies have shown that those who do not get enough sleep are more likely to become sick when exposed to a virus than those who do maintain an adequate sleeping schedule. During sleep, your immune system releases proteins known as cytokines, which not only promote restful sleep but also help fight infections and stress. This means that your body needs sleep to fight infections and inflammation, and long-term sleep deprivation has been linked to diabetes, obesity and heart and blood vessel disease.

Sermorelin

Sermorelin acetate therapy is a popular treatment which can drastically improve bone density, body mass, cognition, memory and sex drive. Not only that, sermorelin can also increase energy levels, fat burning, and can boost a patient’s immune system.

Sermorelin therapy works by injecting sermorelin acetate daily (usually in the evening), which in turn stimulates the body’s pituitary gland. Once stimulated, the body’s pituitary glands produce an increased amount of naturally secreted human growth hormone (HGH). Sermorelin, it should be noted, is not a growth hormone – rather, it is naturally occurring amino acids. This means it is perfectly safe to use, with any minimal side-effects being slight allergic reactions. Sermorelin is an effective (and safe) way to quickly boost your body’s immune systems and overall wellness.

Exercise

Maintaining proper fitness is one of the best ways to improve your immune system. Exercising regularly can keep your immune system in peak condition through:

  • Encouraging healthy sleeping patterns
  • Promoting good circulation, which in turn triggers the release of hormones which alert to the immune system of pathogens
  • Lowering your risk of infection
  • Flushing harmful bacteria from the lungs
  • Slowing and reducing the flow of stress-related hormones in the body
  • Releasing endorphins, which can improve mood and relieve pain

Vitamin Cocktails

Vitamin cocktails are one of the hottest trends in wellness, and it’s easy to see why. Vitamin cocktails, another term for a specially formulated blend of vitamins is designed to quickly help you boost your immune system and overall wellbeing. The vitamin therapies are extremely helpful in boosting a patient’s immune system, supercharging their energy levels, increasing hydration and improving symptoms of asthma, allergies, headaches, the cold and the flu. The reason these vitamin cocktails are so potent is that the nutrients travel directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the issues other delivery methods face, and providing 100-percent hydration and administration of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to your body.

Naturally, here at Walk-In to Wellness, a premier, primary care walk-in clinic in Coral Springs, we embrace regenerative medicine.  Regenerative medicine is the phrase being used to describe Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP), and it’s right on point. It’s a process that uses one’s own blood to stimulate healing after an injury. It also works well as a facial, a cosmetic procedure which is growing in popularity.

What is PRP Therapy?

Let’s begin with some biology. Our blood has four components, two of which are platelets and plasma (the other two are red and white blood cells). Platelets, which are actually small fragments of cells, help the blood clot, while plasma transports blood cells throughout the body.  Plasma also contains proteins called growth factors that play a pivotal role in helping to heal our injuries – again, regenerative medicine.

Now, onto the treatment process itself. As we mentioned earlier, PRP comes from your own blood. Once the blood is drawn, it’s placed into a centrifuge, which separates blood components. The PRP is then given to you, the patient, by injection.

Uses for PRP Therapy

Though PRP therapy hasn’t been approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), it’s being widely studied and is the subject for many clinical trials, including those examining joint preservation,  early knee articular degenerative pathologychronic patellar tendinopathy, and more.  And According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), researchers are closely monitoring the effectiveness of PRP in the following applications:

  • Chronic Tendon Injuries (tennis elbow, Achilles tendon injuries)
  • Acute Ligament and Muscle Injuries
  • Surgery/Post-Surgical Repair
  • Knee Arthritis
  • Fractures

Other reports say researchers are also studying PRP for hair loss in men, and osteoarthritis. More patients here in the U.S. and around the globe are embracing PRP therapy, while many of us in the medical field are excited about its vast potential.

Have You Tried the PRP Facial

Another exciting use for Platelet Rich Plasma is for a PRP facelift, also known as the vampire facial.  During the procedure, blood is drawn from you and is then injected back into your face. The PRP Facial is said to stimulate the growth of collagen and healthy skin cells.
