What is Medical Marijuana (MM)?
Medical marijuana (MMJ) is available to qualified patients in Florida. More people are going the natural route, looking for alternatives to traditional medicine – prescription and over-the-counter meds – to manage their medical conditions. Dr. Jason Zannis is an MMJ doctor, meaning he can help you get qualified for a medical marijuana card in Florida. We’re all about the natural approach to good health and wellness, and vitality here at Walk-In to Wellness, a premier, primary care walk-in clinic in Coral Springs.
The number of people turning to medical marijuana as a way to treat chronic pain and other medical conditions continues to grow. But to get a prescription for medical marijuana, you need to go through a licensed facility, such as Walk-In to Wellness, and apply for a medical marijuana card.
Qualifying Medical Conditions for a Medical Marijuana (MMJ) Card
Dr. Jason Zannis is now a Florida-certified medical marijuana doctor. He can help you enroll in the state’s program. Eligibility for
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
- Crohn’s disease
- Parkinson’s disease
- Multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Medical conditions of the same kind or class as or comparable to those above
- A terminal condition diagnosed by a physician other than the qualified physician issuing the physician certification
- Chronic nonmalignant pain caused by a qualifying medical condition or that originates from a qualifying medical condition and persists beyond the usual course of that qualifying medical condition
Other Benefits of Medical Marijuana
Outside of those qualifying conditions, research suggests it might also help other conditions including arthritis, anxiety, depression, endometriosis, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and more. And in an unprecedented move earlier this year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first drug comprised of an active ingredient derived from marijuana to treat rare, severe forms of epilepsy.
The Medical Marijuana Card Process

There are a number of steps you need to take towards getting a medical marijuana card in Florida. For starters, see
Submit an Application with the State
Next, if moving forward, we’ll place you on the state’s Medical Marijuana Use Registry. That’s a secure, electronic online database for doctors and patients. There, you will need to submit an application to the Office of Medical Marijuana Use. You can submit the application online or mail it in, along with an approved passport photo, and a copy of a State ID/proof of residency. All applications must also include a registration fee, which is currently $75. Caregivers of qualified patients can apply for a card on their behalf. The website accepts credit cards.
Getting Your Medical Marijuana Card
Once you submit your application, it’ll take 3-5 days for it to officially get into the system. And right now, the official processing time is 30 days from the date the state receives your complete application. Don’t believe others who promise you that they can get you a card within a few days. Once approved, you will electronically receive a temporary card which you can use until your official card is printed and sent to you. Your card will expire one year after the state approved it.
You Can Now Purchase Your Medications
Once you get your card, you’re now ready to purchase medications – low THC cannabis and medical marijuana. This can only be done through one of Florida’s medical marijuana dispensaries. They’re authorized to cultivate, process, and dispense medical marijuana. No other businesses are allowed to dispense medical marijuana to qualified patients and caregivers. As of now, there are 81 approved dispensing locations in the state of Florida, and if there’s not one located near you, you can place an order for delivery.
Walk-In to Wellness When You Need an MMJ Doctor
Come in and see Dr. Zannis, who will explain to you how medical marijuana can help you, and how to go about applying for a card. And if approved, he’ll also tell you how to pick up your medications from approved cannabis dispensaries in Florida. As an MMJ doctor, he can also discuss other alternative therapy that can help you manage your medical conditions.
